Fasting

Since surrendering my life to Christ I have participated in fasting on occassions like on the national day of prayer. On other occassions I have fasted for health reasons. On those occassions I struggled with feelings of guilt because I thought I should be fasting and praying out of dedication to God. While fasting is beneficial for our health it is also pleasing to the Lord. I now realize there should be no question in my mind about it; whether I am fasting for physical health or spiritual health, God created our bodies as whole systems. If one aspect is unhealthy the whole body is unhealthy: physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally. From now on, whether I am fasting to focus on God or to gain a better digestive system, I will not be touched by guilt! I will do it all to the glory of God!

Pray

With God all things are possible, if you believe!

Father-

You are righteous, awesome and good!

Search my heart and show me the wickedness that I must confess.

(Confess as the Lord leads)

Forgive my sins against you and help me to forgive those who hurt me and to make amends where I must.

Cleanse me from all unrighteousness.

Make your face shine upon me!

(Pray for others)

Oh,that you would bless me and enlarge my territory!

Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.

I thank you in advance for what you are about to do!

Amen!

Eating a Sin?

What is this verse talking about?

1 Corinthians 6:13 says,
You say, "Food is for the stomach, and the stomach is for food." This is true, though someday God will do away with both of them. But our bodies were not made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies.

I think...it is saying a number of things. First, that when we are given new bodies (as mentioned in other verses) we will not have a stomach or digestive system. Second, there will not be food in heaven. Third, the sin of overeating is not as bad as sexual sins. Forth, our bodies are not made to be used and abused but rather to glorify God!

What do you think it means?

I do not get it!

Journey to what? Yea, right! Does anyone have any ideas how to stick to something? Last night I saw the movie Julie & Julia, it was very good, I could relate to Julie's inability to finish something! I was thinking in the same way that she used Julia's cookbook to cook through and set a deadline, I could set a deadline for how much weight to lose in a specific amount of time and use a specific method and try to stick to that! Well, it's an idea!

Definition

Obesity is defined as having an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity is more than just a cosmetic concern, though. It increases your risk of diseases and health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
Doctors often use a formula based on your height and weight — called the body mass index (BMI) — to determine if you are obese. Adults with a BMI of 30 or higher are considered obese. Extreme obesity, also called severe obesity or morbid obesity, occurs when you have a BMI of 40 or more. With morbid obesity, you are especially likely to have serious health problems.

Day Five, Six and maybe Seven

To Do:
Create a meal plan, schedule exercise, drink lots of water, and pray to God for help!

Exercise:
none

Daily Scripture: 2 Chronicles 6:36-39
If they sinned against you-and who has never sinned?-you might become angry with them and let their enemies conquer them and take them captive to a foreign land faraway or near. But in that land of exile they might turn to you in repentance and pray, ‘We have sinned, done evil, and acted wickedly.’ If they turn to you with their whole heart and soul in the land of their captivity and pray toward the land you gave to their ancestors-toward this city you have chosen, and toward this Temple I have built to honor your name-then hear their prayers and their petitions from heaven where you live, and uphold their cause. Forgive your people who have sinned against you.

Thoughts: We all have sinned. We all need forgiveness. We all need to know that we are forgiven. God wants to use us for His glory and teach us to honor him in all our ways. Surrender your life to Him and he will use you.

Prayer: I have sinned against you O’God, in your great mercy forgive me and make me whole, complete and righteous in Your sight. May I be an instrument in Your hands to be used to glorify yourself! Amen!

Inspirational Thought:
Each day is a new beginning!

Discussion Question:
Would you like to just start over?

Lots of water
½ c. sugar free strawberry jello
1 - mini-bagel with strawberry jelly
small bowl pasta with garlic roasted chicken, onion and bell pepper
Kozy Shack-no sugar added chocolate-pudding cup
1 oatmeal raisin cookie

1 mini-bagle with honey

Exercise:
none

Daily Scripture: “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philipians 1:6 (NIV)

Devotion: We must hide God’s word in our hearts so that we know His Truth. He started this planet, the whole universe in fact, we are all here for a reason, a good reason. My hope is that I will not have wasted my life, that I would be pleasing to Him, but we are not perfect. Only Jesus is perfect. Only by his blood are we made clean and worthy of His calling. May each of our days be marked by Him, completed, so that we will be ready when He comes.

Prayer:
O’ Lord, You are worthy of all my praise. Teach me to walk in your Way, in your Truth, utilizing your Power so that you may be blessed. In Jesus name, Amen!

Inspirational Thought:
I enjoy eating healthy!

Discussion Question:
What types of healthy foods do you enjoy eating?

Day Three

Menu

Plan:
Eat small amounts every two hours.
Take my vitamins
Oatmeal, plum, ??? I need to go shopping!
Drink plenty of water!

Took my vitamins

Green juice drink
Oatmeal, raisin, honey, cinnamon
Mini bagel w/PB
Lots of water
Handful of cheezits
Amy’s Indian cuisine frozen entrée of curried peas, cheese with rice, and chana masala, it also had chick peas and tomatoes, it says it is Mattar Paneer (whatever that means) It was sooo tasty!
Chocolate cookie
Mixed fruit
Iced Venti Half-Caf mocha w/whip cream
Well, I wasn’t that naughty! Oh, be quiet! What did you eat?

Exercise:
I did not workout today! But, I worked out yesterday and the day before! For me that is improvement!

Daily Scripture:
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7

Devotion:

I have been overweight since I was about 8. I nearly became anorexic at age 12. And again at age 17, but it only helped me achieve looking a normal weight. I still was told by others that I was overweight, I still felt overweight. Looking back, I can see in photos of myself, I did not look overweight at all! I would love to be that size now! I think when we are young and our bodies are going through so many growing stages it is difficult to maintain a healthy perspective and image especially when we compare ourselves with others. God does not want us to compare ourselves with each other (Gal. 6:4). He made us all separate, unique and solely different from each other. Just as we should eat a colorful variety of fruits and vegetables we are a beautiful variety of culture, personality, and people!

Prayer:
Sweet Jesus, Thank you for all my friends and family. Please bless them and give them strength in all their endeavors. May they grow close to you through life’s trials. Please give me the strength to resist temptation!

In your name I ask, Amen!

Inspirational Thought:
I am strong in the Lord!

Discussion Question:

Will you pray for the Lord to teach me how to resist temptation?

How can I pray for you?
